British/American Review Version 6.0
As identified and explained in the subscriber announcement posted on 10 October 2002, the MSSO has taken four groups of terms and reviewed their representation and consistency in the terminology with respect to the British spellings and American spellings.
The MSSO has selected four of the larger representations to start with:
- H(a)em (examples: h(a)emorrhage, h(a) emorrhoid, h(a)emolytic, h(a)ematoma)
- (a)emi (examples: leuk(a)emia, septic(a)emia, An(a)emic, Hypoglyc(a)emia)
- F(o)et (examples: f(o)etus, f(o)etal, f(o)etor)
- (o)edem (examples (o)edema, (o)edemic)
Each group is presented with four documents:
- Proposed US terms (displays existing UK terms with the proposed new US terms)
- Proposed UK terms (displays existing US terms with the proposed new UK terms)
- Additional Changes (displays existing US and UK terms and the suggestions which may include but are not limited to:
- Suggested wording of new term for US version (e.g., without
"NOS")
- Suggested wording of new term for UK version (e.g., without
"NOS")
- Mismatched Currencies (displays the existing US / UK terms with their currency status when the US and UK counterparts do not have a consistent status)
- Suggested wording of new term for US version (e.g., without "NOS")
- Suggested wording of new term for UK version (e.g., without "NOS")
- Suggestion to keep only existing terms (e.g., current representation is sufficient or lexical variants are sufficient)
- Suggestion to rename the word to eliminate a combination of US / UK spellings in the same term
- Suggestion to change a term to a non-current status to eliminate a combination of US / UK spellings in the same term
- Mismatched Currencies (displays the existing US / UK terms with their currency status when the US and UK counterparts do not have a consistent status)
- Suggestion to rename the word to eliminate a
combination of US / UK spellings in the same term
Please review the documents and if you have any comments to the additions or changes recommended by the MSSO, please submit your comments to MSSOrequest@ngc.com for consideration. |
